Abstract

The 2006 census reveals that more than 50% of employed population in Iran is not involved in the production of food, clothing, housing and other tangible goods. Apart from the serious reservation of industrialization in Iran, this can be considered as one of the indications of a new phase shift known as “service economy”. To analyze such a post-industrialization economy, it requires new concepts and classifications which, to our knowledge, have been ignored by researchers mainly in Iran. The main objective of this paper is to measure and identify the domain of the fourth sector and its structural analysis in the framework of input-output and semi-social accounting matrix models. Using 2001 input-output data, the overall results show that the fourth sector appears to be oriented as a consumption goods sector compared to the other sectors. Consequently, the consumption-induced effect ploys a significant role in rising production, income and employment.

Abstract

In this paper an innovative vibration rotary tool was designed and manufactured. Vibration turning tool is a compound of turning rotary tool and ultrasonic assistant turning. In this tool, an ultrasonic wave generator with power equal to 20 KHz transducer that has a rotational motion during the process was used. For tool vibration, a stainless horn with resonance frequency equal to 20618 Hz, were designed and manufactured. Round insert with 10 millimeter diameter were used. One of the most important key points in this setup is that the simultaneous rotation and vibration has to be achieved. For rotational motion a motor power and a rack and pinion were used. Also a structure with ability to mount on turning machine were designed and manufactured. Cutting force and surface roughness for each experiment were measured and compared with data collected from conventional rotary tool on 7075 aluminum material. Results shows that ultrasonic vibration cause decreasing in cutting tools and surface roughness, tremendously.

Abstract

Objective: Crocin, an important saffron ingredient, showed anticancer activity in a variety of cancer types, particularly breast cancer. However, little information is available on the mechanism of its action. Previous studies indicate apoptosis induction by crocin in some cancer cells. This study aims to investigate the effect of crocin on the MDA-MB-468 breast cancer cell line in order to investigate its effect on caspase 9 (Cas9) and cleaved-Cas9, expression and splicing of XBP1, and accumulation of LC3-II.
Methods: We used the MTT assay to investigate the cytotoxic effect of crocin on MDA-MB-468 breast cancer cells. Next, Cas9 and cleaved-Cas9 levels were evaluated by Western blot analysis. Splicing of XBP1 mRNA and expression of the spliced protein (XBP1s) was investigated by RT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. The accumulation of LC3-II was also evaluated by Western blot. The obtained results were analyzed and reported by Image J software.
Results: The results showed a time and dose-dependent cytotoxic effect of crocin in MDA-MB-468 cells. The expression of Cas9 and its cleavage, therefore, the ratio of cleaved-Cas9/Cas9 significantly increased. Crocin treatment led to a noticeable increase in splicing of XBP1 mRNA, expression of XBP1s, accumulation of LC3-II, and increased the LC3-II/LC3-I ratio in these cells.
Conclusion: The data have shown induction of apoptosis in these breast cancer cell lines after crocin treatment. Because of the observed changes in UPR markers and autophagy, it seems that these pathways are possibly involved in this process and in intracellular regulations.
